Healthcare

Administering to medical needs and giving families a sense of security about their medical wellbeing is what healthcare in Bryan-College Station is all about. But while continually striving to achieve this goal, another tremendous benefit is attained - a $752 million contribution to the areas annual economic activity.

Economics Benefits
A report initiated by the Chambers Health Services Committee and finalized by Impact DataSource in late 1995 revealed that the local healthcare industry accounted for $163 million in annual salaries and wages for 6,003 jobs. This is in addition to the $752 million in revenues for area health service providers and indirect businesses. These healthcare providers, indirect businesses and their employees account for $352 million of the areas tax base and spend about $42 million annually on local goods and services. Over the next 10 years, total healthcare revenues are expected to reach $9 billion. Job numbers are predicted to reach the point where employees will spend roughly $525 million on local retail. These figures do not include the additional indirect and induced community benefits generated by the healthcare industry.
Jobs
In 1995, health service providers directly employed 3,285 people. Another 2,718 people were indirect employees working in secondary service and support functions of the health and medical industry. All together, the industry supports 8.5% of Bryan-College Stations entire workforce. Over the next 10 years, the number of local jobs in the healthcare industry is predicted to reach 6,864 bringing in $2 billion in salaries and wages.

Another notable healthcare entity is the Health for All Clinic in Bryan, which provides free medical care through the voluntary work of local healthcare providers. Likewise, hospice of Brazos Valley counts on its selfless volunteers to care for terminally ill patients and provide comfort for their families.
